Olympics
Cooke photographed sixteen consecutive olympics starting with the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina, Italy. Cooke witnessed the controversial 1968 Mexico Olympics, the tragic 1972 Munich Games, and chronicled the rise of many great 20th Century athletes including Cassius Clay (later known as Muhammed Ali), Peggy Fleming, Mark Spitz, and Olga Korbut. Working with the Olympic athletes inspired his Bodies in Motion essay.
