Cooke and bulldog, NY 1952

Jerry Cooke, shooting an assignment for “Modern Photography,” was sweating – till he ran across Schmoolie, a tired bulldog who could sleep on tacks – he was a natural.

Jerry loved animals. Throughout his career he photographed animals, at horse races, the circus, on farms, at dog shows and cat shows. After an African safari, he and colleague, Bradley Smith, founded Animals, Animals a successful stock agency. His admiration for animals was so inbred, that he often gave his friends animal nicknames.
